Home / Your guide to celebrity spotting in Las Vegas

One of the perks of living in Las Vegas is, no matter where I go, there's always a chance I will run into a celebrity. I've seen celebs pumping gas, working out at the gym, at the poker table, in a bar and many other places since I moved to Vegas a few years ago. That's a far cry from growing up in Iowa where celebrities wouldn't be caught dead.

Not only can you spot celebrities around the Las Vegas Strip, you can also find them in many places around town because there are tons of popular celebrities that live here. While Los Angeles is known as the place to chase the stars, Las Vegas has plenty of its own famous residents. These include Mike Tyson, Flavor Flav, Greg Maddux, Holly Madison, Robin Leach, Ed O'Bannon, Rick Harrison and the other Pawn Stars, Wayne Newton, Britney Spears, Jose Canseco, Steve Wynn and Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

You won't only see the celebs that live here when you travel to Las Vegas. Many famous people come to Las Vegas to party because ... why not? Vegas is the ultimate adult playground and we all know how celebrities love to show off.

If you want to take a selfie with a celebrity to post on Facebook or Instagram, you first have to find the right celebrity. Certain famous people absolutely hate taking pictures with random strangers. Chumlee from Pawn Stars isn't afraid to interact with random folk. But if you're going to get a picture with Chumlee, you had better be female. He seems to be more receptive to the ladies.

To find a celebrity, the best places to go are nightclubs such as LAX at Luxor and Tao at Venetian or fine dining restaurants such as N9NE at Palms. As you might expect, celebrities don't generally hangout in dive bars or at the Motel 6 near the Strip. You typically have to go where people pay a ton of money.

Does that mean you have to spend a lot of money to get to see celebrities? Nope.

Sometimes you can find celebrities filming movies in a casino. Also, I play poker for a living and often play with celebrities or see them at another table in the poker room. The best poker rooms for finding celebrities are Aria and Bellagio. Not only do I frequently see top poker players such as Johnny Chan, Phil Hellmuth, and Daniel Negreanu. I also see other celebrities from time to time in the poker room such as Jose Canseco, Norm MacDonald, Don Cheadle, and Michael Phelps.

You never know when you're going to see a celebrity

I occasionally see famous people in random places around town. A year or so ago, I ran into baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux at a gas station. I've seen Flavor Flav roaming the Vegas Strip a couple of times. I even saw Mike Tyson walking through MGM Grand (He was quite receptive to those seeking his autograph).

Of course, if you don't feel like chasing celebrities around town, you can always take in a show and see a celebrity during a performance. Britney Spears, Penn & Teller, Carrot Top, Donny and Marie Osmond and Terry Fator are on stage frequently, along with many other celebrities. Penn & Teller typically do a free meet and greet with fans following the show.

If all else fails, you can visit Madame Tussauds and get photos with the wax likenesses of many celebrities. If you're lucky, your friends back home won't know the difference.
